This page explains what This is Chiapas collects when you browse the guide, use the map, or submit content as a local node, and what we do with it.

Browsing the guide

You can read the destinations, the illustrated map and the festival calendar without creating an account and without giving us any personal details.

Our hosting provider records standard technical information for every request, such as the page requested, approximate region, browser type and time. This is used to keep the site running and to understand which pages are useful.

Location

Map features that show your position use your browser's geolocation API, and only after you grant permission in the browser prompt. Your coordinates are used in your device to draw your marker and estimate travel times.

We do not store your location on our servers and we do not sell or share it. You can withdraw the permission at any time in your browser settings.

Preferences stored on your device

We store small preferences locally in your browser, such as the light or dark mode of the calendar. These stay on your device, are not tied to an identity, and are cleared when you clear site data.

Accounts and community submissions

Editors and community nodes sign in to publish festivals and listings. For those accounts we process the sign-in email address and the content submitted, including event details and images, so that it can be published on the site.

Anything you submit for publication is intended to be public. Do not include personal data of third parties in listings without their consent.

Third parties

  • Our hosting and database provider stores the site content and account records.
  • Map tiles are served by our map provider, which receives the requests your browser makes to display the map.
  • If you choose to contact us on WhatsApp or open an external booking link, that conversation or booking is governed by the other service's privacy policy.

Retention and your rights

Published listings and calendar entries are kept while they remain relevant to the guide. Account records are kept while the account is active.

You can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you by writing to us through the contact channel on the home page. We will respond and, where deletion applies, remove the data from our systems.
