For travellers

• Ask before photographing people, ceremonies, altars and interiors. In several communities photography is restricted and refusal is not negotiable.
• Follow the instructions of community authorities. Some towns govern access to their own sites and may charge or close entry.
• Pay the posted local fees and use local guides where they are required.
• Carry your waste out of natural sites, including canyons, lagoons and waterfalls.
• Do not buy or remove archaeological pieces, wildlife or protected plants.

For hosts, guides and local nodes

• Publish only services you actually operate, with prices and inclusions stated honestly.
• Keep contact details, schedules and availability current, and answer enquiries you receive through this site.
• State your own cancellation and refund terms clearly before taking payment.
• Hold the permits and permissions your activity requires in your municipality.
• Represent the communities you work with fairly, and pay the people and families involved.

Content published on the platform

Photos, descriptions and event information submitted to This is Chiapas must be yours to publish or free of restrictions. We may edit copy for language and clarity, and we may resize or compress images for performance.

We do not accept content that is discriminatory, that misrepresents an indigenous community, or that promotes activities that damage protected sites.

Moderation

We review reports from travellers and from communities. Depending on the case we may correct a listing, ask a node to respond, suspend it while we check, or remove it permanently.

Removal decisions are made by the editorial team. If you believe a decision was wrong, write to us and we will look at it again.

Changes to these rules

As the network of nodes grows, these rules will be updated. Continued use of the platform after an update means you accept the current version published on this page.
